AI Disclosure
Effective Date: 1 January 2025
Last Updated: 9 September 2026
SiteMeUp Online Marketing (Pty) Ltd ("SiteMeUp") is committed to transparency about how we use artificial intelligence (AI) in our services and operations. This disclosure outlines our use of AI tools, the role of human oversight, how we handle AI content provenance and watermarking, and how we handle data within AI workflows.
1. How We Use AI
We incorporate AI technologies to enhance and support the following areas of our business:
- Content generation: AI assists in drafting blog posts, marketing copy, and website content. All AI-generated content is reviewed and edited by our team before publication.
- Image generation: AI assists in generating full or partial images for websites, marketing and client content, used where relevant to the project. All AI-generated imagery is reviewed by our team before use.
- SEO analysis: AI tools help analyse keyword opportunities, search trends, and content optimisation recommendations as part of our SEO services.
- Development assistance: AI aids in code generation, debugging, and code builds, accelerating web development workflows for client projects.
- Security audits: AI supports security audits and vulnerability assessments across development and infrastructure work. Findings are verified by our team before any remediation or client report.
- Customer support: AI may be used to assist with initial support responses, with human team members handling complex queries and escalations.
- Technology assessments: AI assists in analysing website performance, security vulnerabilities, and infrastructure recommendations.
2. Human Oversight
AI is a tool that supports our team; it does not replace human judgement. All AI-generated outputs, whether content, imagery, code, or recommendations, are reviewed by qualified SiteMeUp team members before being delivered to clients or published. We maintain editorial and technical control over all deliverables.
3. AI Content Tracking, Provenance and Watermarking
As AI content tracking and watermarking standards mature, we are adjusting our practices to stay transparent and compliant:
- Content Credentials (C2PA): Where the AI image and video tools we use support Content Credentials (the C2PA provenance standard) or similar watermarking metadata, we preserve this metadata in the delivered file where it is technically possible to do so, so that AI involvement remains traceable.
- Regulatory awareness: We monitor AI content transparency regulation relevant to our clients, including the EU AI Act's Article 50 requirements for machine-readable marking of AI-generated audio, image, video and text, and disclosure of AI-generated deepfakes and public-interest text.
- Advertising platform compliance: For paid media managed through Meta and Google Ads, we follow each platform's AI content disclosure rules, including Meta's "AI info" labelling for AI-generated or AI-edited ad media and Google's "How this ad was made" disclosure for AI-assisted ads.
- Where metadata is stripped: Content Credentials and other embedded metadata can be removed when a file is exported, compressed, or re-encoded by a third-party system. Where this happens, we rely on manual disclosure and our internal review process to maintain transparency rather than on the metadata alone.
- Client requests: On request, we will confirm which elements of a deliverable involved AI assistance and whether Content Credentials or platform-level AI labelling apply to that deliverable.
4. Data Handling in AI Workflows
- We do not share personally identifiable client information with third-party AI models without consent.
- Where client data is used in AI-assisted processes (e.g., website analysis), it is handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy and POPIA Compliance commitments.
- Sensitive credentials or access details are never processed through AI tools.
5. Third-Party AI Tools
We may use reputable third-party AI platforms and APIs as part of our workflows. These providers are selected based on their data handling practices, security standards, compliance commitments, and, where relevant to image or video generation, support for content provenance standards such as C2PA. We regularly review these partnerships to ensure they meet our standards.
6. AI in Client Deliverables
Where AI has been used as part of a client project (such as content creation, image generation, development, or security audits), we are transparent about its involvement upon request, including whether the deliverable carries Content Credentials or platform AI labelling. The final quality, accuracy, and appropriateness of all deliverables remains the responsibility of the SiteMeUp team.
7. Our Commitment
- We will continue to be transparent about our use of AI as the technology evolves.
- We will not use AI in ways that compromise client privacy or data security.
- We will ensure human review of all AI-assisted work that impacts clients.
- We will keep our AI content tracking and watermarking practices aligned with applicable regulation and platform requirements, including the EU AI Act and Meta/Google advertising policies, where relevant to a client's campaign or audience.
- We will update this disclosure as our AI practices and applicable standards develop.
